Modern is more than “not” historic. Modern is more than a style. Modern is not always harsh clean lines. It’s being a part of and fully embracing our contemporary world and MODinChs knows it’s happening in this historic city of Charleston, SC.

Charlestonians are known to be mavericks and Charleston is famous for a lot of firsts. We aren’t just a part of history, we make it! Our history is important, it’s what makes our city so special. MODinChs fully embraces that history, but we acknowledge we don’t live in the past.

We are well into the 21st century but many local forms of media aggrandize “the way it used to be” or only promote traditional designers, homes, artists, and designs. Here at MODinChs we are going to be mavericks. We are going to celebrate and promote the modern and contemporary designs being created here. We know modern design can be an integral part of real life right here in Charleston. Guess what, we’ve seen it. And we think you want to know about it.

Whether you have just found your way to our city, or a native, we know Charlestonians are a discerning crowd. That’s why we’re committed to providing more than just pretty pictures. MODinChs will bring you interesting, intelligent articles crammed full of good information. We also believe it’s important to connect the designs featured here to the particulars of our place in time, our community, and the people in it. We will show you how real people live in an in-your-face modern house on James Island, create contemporary art on Johns Island, work in an ultra sleek contemporary office hidden behind a 19th Century historic facade on the peninsula, or maybe just have a really cool piece of Retro-Modern furniture in their bedroom. MODinChs will spotlight Lowcountry architects, graphic designers, artists, interior designers, urban designers, fashion designers, and entrepreneurs that influence modern Charleston while being influenced by it’s history.

MODinChs fully supports our local community but Earth is a big planet and realize we are living in a global society, so don’t be surprised if you see something we feel does, or will, influence and enrich our local modern community.
